THE YO-YO
COMIC THEATER IN ENLIGHTENMENT EUROPE

[GAMES] / [VAUDEVILLE SONGS] [ANONYMOUS]. Zu singendes Lied und Vaudeville unter und auf das allerliebste, allgemein beliebte und unterhaltende Joujou de Normandie. Wisladen, s.n., 1792.

Extremely rare sole edition of two German vaudeville songs satirizing the contemporary obsession with the yo-yo. The present work – two strophic vaudeville songs to be sung to familiar tunes – attests to the arrival of the yo-yo fashion in Enlightenment Germany. An engraving shows a female and two male monkeys dressed in Revolutionary French fashion and happily performing tricks with their yo-yos.
