ANONYMOUS. Il Nuovo Computista pei Commercianti ridotto alla massima facilità.
. Milano, Cartaro Stampatore Candido Bucinelli, [1811.].
8vo.
$2,650 Rare ephemeral pocket book giving the exchange rates between Milan and various Italian city-states or regions as well as the most commonly encountered European currencies. The work is of numismatic interest for reproducing the rectos of 52 coins. The contents include densely printed conversion tables in the first two folding plates, a large and handsome plate showing the rectos of 45 different coins, and a paper ruler (folding out to 98 cm in length) which juxtaposes the local Milanese "braccia" to one more widely employed throughout Italy. A rare survival of early 19th-century mercantile culture.
Not in the NUC or OCLC, but we have located a single copy of this edition at the British Library. This is the earliest example we have found recorded, though given the ephemeral value of such information, one can well imagine earlier editions. We have also located a c. 1820 Milan edition at Cambridge and an 1835 edition at Pavia.
