An Elegant, Informative Map of the Western Hemisphere
ROBERT DE VAUGONDY, D. [Paris, 1778]
Amerique ou Indes Occidentales.
20 ¼ x 25 ½ inches
Original outline color; minor staining to top margin, else excellent.
A beautifully engraved map of the Western Hemisphere, detailing the colonial spheres of influence of the major European powers. In order to emphasize French holdings in the Caribbean, there are inset maps of Martinique and Hispaniola. The map specifies the colonial divisions within North and South America as well as in the Caribbean; a further chart indicates the divisions between Catholic and Protestant spheres in the Americas.
Pedley, Bel et Utile, no. 19, state 4.
