Exceptionally Well-Preserved Bandana
Commemorating the 1893 Columbian World Exposition
Columbus/ Textile Americana.
WINDSOR COMPANY [North Adams, Mass., 1893]
Souvenir Of Columbus Exposition. Chicago.
24 ½ x 27 ½ inches
Lithograph on cotton cloth, in brown, white and pink; fine condition.
An elegantly lithographed memento, printed on cloth, of the 1893 Chicago World Exposition, depicting Columbus, various historical episodes involving him, and the arms of the United States and Spain in two of the corners. The famous “White City” world’s fair was held on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ first voyage to America. However, it was a watershed event in the development of American technology, architecture, and the city of Chicago. This is certainly one of the finer examples of this type of artifact that we have seen.
