With Remarkable Engraving in Miniature
In a Fine Period Binding
LOBECK, T./ LOTTER, T. C. [Augsberg, 1762?]
Atlas Geographicus portabilis, XXIX mappis….
4 ½ x 5 7/8 inches
Oblong 32mo. in original red calf binding with blind-stamped tooling along edges of boards, moderately worn at corners; in original slip-case, quite worn; 29 maps with original wash color; very little staining or soiling, overall excellent.
A lovely example of a small-scale atlas with engraving of extraordinary intricacy and miniaturization. Elegantly bound in period, gold-tooled red calf. There is an uncommonly fine frontispiece depicting the arts and sciences personified in an Olympian setting, as well as a superb engraved title-page. Included in the atlas are a fine celestial chart, a double-hemisphere world map, and maps of the continents. All 29 maps have attractive original color. A 20-page appendix at the end of the volume outlines Germany's complex political geography.
