14 ¾ x 19 ¼ inches Fine hand color; excellent condition.
Rare first issue map with English text of the land that is currently Southwest Poland, formerly part of Germany. The verso text describes the history of Silesia, its people, and its royal family. It also describes its towns, government and trade goods – such as iron, saltpeter and gold – which it says “yeelded them every yeere an incredible somme of money.” Prague, Dresden, Frankfurt and Krakow all appear on the map. In a vibrant cartouche, Pan, god of nature, and Fauna, goddess of fertility, are surrounded by animals and greenery, tribute to Silesia’s great forests.
