A Mint Example of the First State
HOMANN, J. B. [Nuremberg, 1712]
Regni Poloniae Magnique Ducatus Lithuaniae nova et exacta….
19 3/8 x 22 ½ inches
Original wash coloring; fine condition with a strong impression.
A superb example of this beautiful map engraved by Homann himself; the first state is distinguished by the presence of “Author sculpsit” at lower right. This example’s strong impression accentuates the richness of the cartouche consisting of the Polish national crest, a warrior, and three hives complete with swarms of bees. The map shows the political boundaries of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that lasted from 1569 to 1795.
