Nicely Illustrated Map of Canada & the Arctic

Arctic/ Canada/ Alaska. WYLD, J. [London, 1825]
Discoveries Of Capts. Ross, Parry & Franklin, in the Arctic Regions. In 1818, 1819, 1820, 1821 & 1822. . 11 ¾ x 17 ¼ inches
Lithograph with routes & borders in hand color; bit of faint discoloration, else excellent.

An attractive, scarce map showing the routes of the important northerly explorations of the above-named explorers, with a five small but dramatic vignettes of striking vistas they encountered. The map highlights the resumption of the English search for a northwest passage in the early decades of the 19th century. It appeared in Wyld's general atlas; a reduced edition was later published by Thomson. James Wyld (Senior) was a renowned English mapmaker, who went on to become Geographer to His Majesty and was a founding member of the Royal Geographic Society.
