Both 10 in. diam.; 21 in. high. Horizon ring supported by four quadrants mounted with lacquered brass pressed floral rosettes, raised on a baluster-turned, cherrywood central column on three legs. Both globes in excellent condition with bright patina. Terrestrial globe with outline and full body color; celestial with engraved figures for constellations colored yellow against blue-green background.

Very rare first edition, first issue of "one of the greatest of medical classiscs" describing a new method of physical diagnosis--thoracic percussion, namely, tapping a patient's chest and determining from the resultant sound whether it was healthy or diseased.
